The nursing shortage has hit our local area and healthcare facilities have responded by trying to entice workers to join their particular facility by offering special work assignments, sign-on bonuses, tuition reimbursement and higher pay. While there is a huge need for nurses currently, employment of LPNs is expected to grow by 9% from 2020 to 2030! A "workable" schedule is in place. In August, students attend class in-person 4 days a week (Tuesday through Friday). For the remainder of the program, the typical schedule includes 3 in-person days each week and 1 hybrid (online) day. For example:Monday - no classTuesday - online assignmentWednesday - in-person classroomThursday - in-person classroom (phase 1) or in-person clinical (phase 2)Friday - in-person clinicalHow can I pay for the program?Most people wonder "what will school cost me?" Financial assistance includes grants and scholarships which do not need to be repaid, as well as loans that do require repayment.Grants and Scholarships:Pell Grants (maximum amount for qualified students is $10,295)PA-TIP Grants (maximum amount for qualified students is $4,998)Local Scholarships can help decrease the cost of schooling.Loans:An independent student typically can take up to $14,677 in loans throughout the program as long as they qualify and are not in default.A dependent student typically can take up to $8,705 throughout the program, and their parents may qualify to take out additional loan money.How much does the program cost?Please view the cost sheet for a detailed explanation of the tuition and fees associated with our program.How do I apply?Complete the online application formSubmit 2 reference forms to the schoolSubmit your official high school transcript (just call your guidance office)Complete an Act 34 clearance at our school when you test ($22)Complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills Version 6 test (Free at present - Limited quantity)Attend a short interviewAdditional requirements include:Act 34 clearance free of prohibitive offensesAct 151 free of offensesFBI clearance free of prohibitive offensesPhysical examination stating that the applicant is able to undertake the training of this programAbout the Practical Nursing Program at the Technology CenterThe Venango Technology Center Practical Nursing Program was founded in July of 1966 and was originally operated by the Oil City Area School District. In July of 1968, responsibility for the Practical Nursing Program was transferred to the Venango Technology Center (formerly the Venango County Area Vocational-Technical School). The Oil City Campus continues to operate at this facility. A Warren Campus began in August of 2009 and operates in the Warren-Forest Higher Education Council (Hi-Ed) Building located on the Warren State Hospital grounds.Accreditation Status and ApprovalThe Practical Nursing Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and is fully approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
