    What is a Licensed Practical Nurse?
    A Licensed Practical Nurse is an important member of the health care team who provides patient care under the supervision or direction of a registered nurse, a physician or dentist.

    Course of Study
    The nursing program is one academic year (1,505 clock hours) in length.  The school-year begins in August and finishes in June of the following year.  Approximately 50% of the time is spent in clinical practice and 50% in the classroom.  Clinical experience is received at several local health care facilities and in our state of the art simulation laboratory!  Graduates are eligible to take the State Board of Nursing Licensing Examination for Practical Nurses in Pennsylvania and New York (other states have not been determined at present).

    How will I know if I would like Practical Nursing?
    Successful Practical Nursing students should possess character skills including, but not limited to, communication, flexibility, attention to detail as well as the ability to relate to people in a caring manner.
    Admission Requirements:
    - High School Transcript indicating completion of a high school course of study or a GED
    - Physical Examination attesting to your ability to perform program standards
    - Completion of all of the application steps 
    - Act 34 clearance free of prohibitive offenses
    - Act 151 free of offenses
    -FBI clearance free of prohibitive offenses 
    * Final acceptance is contingent upon a physical examination stating that the applicant is able to undertake the training of this program and a criminal record background that does not contain prohibitive offenses.
    Application Steps:
    - Submit an application and 2 references (on our reference forms)
    - Request your high school to submit to us an "official transcript" or submit a copy of your GED
    - Take our pre-entrance examination
    - Complete a personal interview
    How can I afford it?
    Tuition for 2021-22 school year is $15,450.
    There are additional costs for books, fees, uniforms, supplies and insurance (detailed pricing provided at new student orientation or upon request).
    Many students enrolled in the Practical Nursing Program are eligible for financial aid programs such as PELL grants, PA-TIP Grants, and Direct loans.

    About the Practical Nursing Program at the Technology Center
    The Venango Technology Center Practical Nursing Program was founded in July of 1966 and was originally operated by the Oil City Area School District.  In July of 1968, responsibility for the Practical Nursing Program was transferred to the Venango Technology Center (formerly the Venango County Area Vocational-Technical School).  The Oil City Campus continues to operate at this facility.  A Warren Campus began in August of 2009 and operates in the Warren-Forest Higher Education Council (Hi-Ed) Building located on the Warren State Hospital grounds.
    Accreditation Status and Approval

    Refund Policy
    The Venango Technology Center adheres to the refund policies required of schools participating in Federal Student Aid (Title IV) Programs.  A description of the refund policies may be found in the student handbook of the Practical Nursing Program.
