MACHINE TOOL TECHNOLOGY
Precision Machinists are highly skilled workers who provide tools, molds, and special guiding and holding devices that are used to mass-produce a variety of metal and plastic parts. Machinists set up and operate all types of basic and advanced machine tools using precision measuring instruments. Machinists also create parts from hand held size to needing a semi to move. From as simple as a bolt to as complicated to a locomotive engine block. Through our program, students gain a basic understanding of machine tools, measuring instruments, metals and blueprint reading to prepare them for entry level positions in manufacturing.

Machine work includes: lathe, milling machine, heat-treating, bench work, drill press, grinder, and band saw. In addition, the student is exposed to a Computerized Numerically Controlled (CNC) milling machine and a computerized turning center. This enables the student to learn current technology as it relates to computer-controlled machinery. Students who meet certain criteria are eligible to take NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) certification tests.
