CAMPUS SECURITY
The administration and faculty of the Venango Technology Center Practical Nursing Program recognize the safety of the Practical Nursing students as a high priority. It takes the cooperation of everyone to accomplish this task. Please realize that you and the school have a joint responsibility to adhere to safety procedures and be responsible for your safety and the safety of others. At the start of each academic year, students and staff are oriented to the Venango Technology Center’s security procedures and practices, including crime and sexual assault prevention. Students will first be provided with security and safety information at the mandatory new student orientation prior to the start of classes. Major security and safety information will be reviewed with students during the first week of school.
The Practical Nursing Program in Oil City is located within a public school, and students also attend clinical classes at local health care facilities. Access to the Venango Technology Center in Oil City is restricted to students, faculty, staff, and “customers” (after registering in the main office) of the various shops that provide services to the community (i.e. “auto trades”, “auto body”, etc.). Local police patrol campus facilities, and clinical facilities have security personnel in their employ. Persons deemed to be without legitimate reasons to be on the campus are considered to be trespassers and are reported to local police if they do not leave when requested to do so. The custodial maintenance staff is responsible for opening and closing the building. A member of the custodial maintenance staff is present whenever the building is being used.
The Practical Nursing Program in Warren is located on the Warren State Hospital grounds, and students also attend clinical classes at local health care facilities. Access to the Venango Technology Center in Warren is unrestricted. Local and Warren State Hospital police patrol the area and respond to concerns. The Hi-Ed staff is responsible for opening and closing the building.
Crime statistics for the campus are compiled annually, verified with local and/or state law enforcement agencies and submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The following statistics indicate reported crimes:

Students and faculty are strongly urged to contact the Coordinator of the Practical Nursing Program, Dr. Cynthia A. Cornelius (814) 493-6591 or the Director of Venango Technology Center, Mario S. Fontanazza, Jr. (814) 677-3097 (ext. 1511) to report any suspicious or unusual circumstances occurring on campus, especially those situations that endanger you or others. 911 will be contacted if a police officer or ambulance is needed. We emphasize the fact that anyone, who wishes, may contact the appropriate government agency to report a crime; however, it is important that you contact the Coordinator or the Director to assure that the safety of others in the school is protected and crime statistics are complete. The occurrence of serious crimes, such as murder, sex offenses, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft and hate crimes will be reported to the Practical Nursing students by the Coordinator in a timely manner (within one (1) class day after such incidents become known.)
The possession, use, and sale of alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs are prohibited on the campus of the Practical Nursing Program and the Venango Technology Center. Violation of this prohibition will result in dismissal from the Program. Please see the drug and alcohol policy for additional information.
