Diversified Occupations

OVERVIEW

Diversified occupations program may include any of the occupational areas.  The diversified occupations program shall be available as a one-year program.  This program is for 12th grade students who are unable to gain admission to a vocational program due to excessive numbers of applicants, inability to meet entrance requirements for other existing vocational programs, or lack of specific vocational areas offered at the comprehensive high school or participating area vocational technical school.  When diversified occupation programs are provided, they shall be planned in accordance with the student’s stated career objective.

Diversified Occupations Employers

Participating employers make the final hiring decision and determine hourly rates.  An employer agrees to hire a Diversified Occupations student for the duration of the school year.  An employer may end your position for any reason they would normally terminate an employee.  The student must agree to keep good attendance, good attitude and work diligently to improve their skills.

How do I apply?

  1. Meet with your Guidance Counselor and have good attendance, good attitude, and good skills.
  2. With your Guidance Counselor’s approval, make an appointment with the    Diversified Occupations instructor.
  3. Complete the application forms.
  4. Submit a typed resume.
  5. Be available for employment interviews.

How Am I Graded?

As a Diversified Occupations student, you will attend classes that correspond with your work experience.  Your course grade will be based on the following information given to your VTC instructor:

  • Your attendance and participation at the weekly classes.
  • Your employer’s evaluation of your job performance.
  • Your completion of a day-to-day log required for your Diversified Occupations employment.
