Every year the Welding Technology Class from Venango Technology Center enters the Pittsburgh Sections "American Welding Society's Annual Weld-Off."
This year the AWS awards ceremony was held at the Steamfitters Technology Center in Harmony, PA on 11 February 2020 at 6 PM.
Those receiving awards were – Dakota Urey (Cranberry High School) 2nd place in the college level competition. Dakota received a plaque and a check for $200.00. Those receiving D1.1 Xray certifications were – Dakota Urey (Cranberry) received 3G vertical up and 4G overhead, Cole Harvey (Titusville) received 3G vertical up and Tyler See (Titusville) received 3G vertical up.
This year in addition to High School Seniors, two (2) CCAC night class students competed in the 39th Annual Weld-off at Pittsburgh Technical College (PTC) on December 6, 2019.
The competition consists of welding V grooves in both the vertical up (3G) and the overhead position (4G). Once their plates have been welded they go through "Visual Inspection" and if they pass they are sent to X-ray inspection by System One in Cheswick, PA. Normally the X-rays are not completed until February time frame.
